Old World v. New World

As you plan to order a juicy steak, you waive the sommelier over to guide you through the wine list. She asks, "are you thinking Old World or New World?"

What the heck is that? you wonder. Undecipherable names with unpronounceable words and who knows what varietal - that must be Old World, right? Labels designed by computer graphics majors and highlighting the flavor one taster (or a marketing analyst) experienced - that's New World. Isn't it?

Perhaps. But there is so much more.

In this 2-hour workshop, we will explore the differences, focusing on terroir, viticulture, climate, use of oak, alcohol content and structure, and (yes) labeling.

While preference is very personal, you will gain an appreciation for both styles, and maybe even broaden your tastes.

You will emerge from this workshop with the knowledge of what Old Europe has been doing for centuries and how the Upstart Colonies are carving their own path in the world of wine. And most importantly, you will be able to confidently answer that question: Old World or New World, as you imagine biting into that yummy steak.
